Aston Villa v Celtic: James McFadden shocked at incident – ‘Disastrous’
James McFadden was stunned by the “disastrous” start for Celtic against Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Villa won the game 4-2 on 29 January, but things could have been a lot worse for Celtic as they were 2-0 down in the first five minutes.
Morgan Rogers scored in the third and fifth minute and it was the second goal that enraged McFadden as the Hoops had to chase the game right from the outset.
He told BBC Sportsound on 29 January at 20:08: “There was a deflection on the shot that takes it past Schmeichel. It’s a disastrous start for Celtic.”
Aston Villa and Celtic play out a fun game for the neutrals
This was a game that had everything and while it was exciting for the neutrals, it would’ve been nervy for any stakeholders on either side.
Villa started so well that it looked like another comfortable evening under the lights but it was a spirited fightback from Brendan Rodgers’ side.
However, Unai Emery kept his team on their toes and Ollie Watkins added a third goal to give his side the lead for the second time on the night before Rogers scored another to get a hat-trick.
The hosts dominated possession and had the majority of the chances as well but will be disappointed to give away their lead in that manner.
Emery surely will not be pleased by it and will use the next few days to tighten things up at the back as Premier League sides can make them pay dearly.

It remains to be seen if there is to be a much-improved defensive performance from the Villans against Wolves on 1 February.
