Aston Villa transfers: Player ‘passes medical’ at European club, exit imminent

Emi Buendia has passed his medical with Bayer Leverkusen and is now on the verge of officially leaving Aston Villa, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports reporter shared via X on Tuesday (29 January) that an announcement will be made “soon” by both clubs.

Buendia is set to join the German champions on an initial loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, which is reported to have caused some friction [Florian Plettenberg].

Emi Buendia set to depart Aston Villa

The move to Leverkusen seemingly came out of the blue, with Leeds United looking the playmaker’s most likely destination at one point.

Due to injury, it has not worked out for Buendia at Villa Park in the way he would have liked.

However, the fact Leverkusen want to take him – albeit initially on loan – is quite telling and does throw up the question of whether Villa are making the right choice?

Buendia is clearly a very talented player and he just needs a run of games to get back to the player he once was.

Should this indeed be the end of his time at Villa Park, he will leave with the best wishes of every supporter.
