Emery may be handed Celtic boost at Aston Villa after ‘big’ Tyrone Mings update

Unai Emery be handed a boost to his Aston Villa side after what he said about Tyrone Mings before the clash against Celtic on Wednesday.

The Scottish Premiership leaders travel to Villa Park on 29 January as the Villans look to secure three points and a place in the Champions League top eight.

The B6 club will be hopeful that their England international centre-back will be able to feature after going off in a devastating moment against West Ham.

There was fear among the Villa faithful that Ezri Konsa would be the only fit senior centre-back available for the European clash but now Emery has offered a fresh update.

Speaking in his press conference on 28 January, shared via X, he said: “It’s not a big injury but every day is going to be very important on how he could feel better or worse.

“We will train this afternoon and will see how he is feeling.”

Tyrone Mings update shared before Aston Villa v Celtic

There is no doubt that it would be a massive boost to have the 31-year-old available for the home clash against the Hoops.

The Englishman’s impact has been clear to see for the Villans and there was a definite difference when he came off in the first half against the Hammers.

Despite featuring in just 38 minutes of action at Villa Park, Mings was able to make 12 passes with an 86 per cent accuracy with one of those going into the final third [FotMob].

The ex-Bournemouth man was superb defensively as he won two tackles while also contributing with an additional four defensive actions and completing one recovery.

Add to this a duel success of 100 per cent against Graham Potter’s side and Emery will have been pleased with his performance and frustrated to see him forced off so early.

With a Champions League clash coming up, both the Spaniard and Mings will be hopeful of being able to feature off the bench or even from the start with the hope of securing a huge win.
