Louie Barry set for medical as Aston Villa agree transfer

Louie Barry is on the verge of completing a loan move from Aston Villa to Hull City with a medical set, according to James Hoggarth.

The BBC Radio Humberside journalist reported on X (27 January) that Barry is in line to undergo a medical ahead of a move to the Tigers, following his return from a spell at Stockport County.

Barry netted 15 goals for Stockport in League One in the first half of this season before being recalled by Villa, and despite Unai Emery hinting at a permanent move for the 21-year-old, he’s set for another loan.

Louie Barry move resolves Aston Villa transfer speculation

Barry’s future for the rest of this season has arguably been the biggest story to come out of Villa Park so far this month – even with the Lions signing a Champions League finalist in the form of Donyell Malen.

A breakthrough into the first-team fold for Emery’s side never looked likely at this stage of Barry’s career, particularly given seemingly half the Championship had enquired about his availability on loan.

Selling Barry permanently would have seen Villa generate profit from a PSR perspective, but they clearly see his ceiling – and transfer value – being much higher than what they can earn this month.

Hull have already made a plethora of attacking signings in the winter window, such as Leeds United’s Joe Gelhardt, giving Barry no guarantees that he’ll walk straight into the starting XI at the MKM Stadium.

However, with a track record in Barcelona’s academy and having already torn up EFL defences at will, expect Barry to be back at Bodymoor Heath in the summer with his stocks raised even higher.
