Lamare Bogarde ‘furious with Emery’ as Aston Villa agree terms for new transfer

Unai Emery has added Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia to his Aston Villa squad ahead of the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Both are extremely exciting talents, plying their trades at different ends of the pitch, yet the Villa boss has been left needing yet another transfer before the winter window slams shut on 3 February.

During a tense 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Sunday 26 January, Tyrone Mings suffered a devastating injury, having already been sidelined for almost all of the previous season.

While he has assured a concerned fanbase that the newest setback is not “serious”, Emery clearly needs to find someone who can be relied upon, someone who isn’t injury-prone.

Luckily for the manager, he has 21-year-old talent Lamare Bogarde waiting in the wings for a chance to prove himself. But it is not so simple for the central defender at Villa Park.

Despite getting stripped to replace Mings against the Hammers, Emery decided to put Ian Maatsen on the pitch, forcing Lucas Digne into a central position, rather than put a natural centre-back on the pitch.

Lamare Bogarde continues to be ignored at Aston Villa

Bogarde, who has graduated from the club’s academy, only has nine first-team appearances to his name, mostly because he is not given opportunities to prove his worth on the pitch.

Now, the youngster is set to fall even further down the pecking order at Villa Park, and he has every right to be furious with Emery as the Villans agree a deal for a new defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano

, Villa have agreed personal terms with Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, having had crucial talks with the manager.

All that is needed now is for Villa and Chelsea to reach a full agreement.

Of course, the defence has been massively reduced thanks to Pau Torres’ injury and Diego Carlos’ move to Galatasaray, but this just shows how little faith the manager has in Bogarde.

If he cannot find a loan deal before the transfer window closes, it could be a very frustrating second half of the season for the 21-year-old.
