Jamie Carragher blasts ‘Awful’ Lucas Digne live during Aston Villa v West Ham
Lucas Digne was “awful” as Aston Villa drew against West Ham United in the Premier League, Jamie Carragher says.
The ex-defender blasted the France international for his performance in the 1-1 draw at Villa Park on Sunday (26 January).
Carragher felt the 31-year-old had a “nightmare” of a game after shifting to centre-back as Tyrone Mings was substituted with an injury in the first half.
Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League (26 January, 18:10), the 46-year-old said: “Digne has had an absolute nightmare on the ball since he’s gone to centre-back. He’s been absolutely awful.”
Lucas Digne struggled in Aston Villa draw v West Ham United
The Villans started the fixture on the front foot and took the lead in the eighth minute after Jacob Ramsey found the back of the net.
Unai Emery’s team dominated the Hammers for most of the first half and looked like scoring the second goal on multiple occasions.
After the break, though, Graham Potter had his team come out all guns blazing, and they slowly started to gain momentum.
Aston Villa conceded their lead as Emerson scored in the 70th minute, and the Irons subsequently took control of the match.

Digne can be excused for not being at his best as he played as a central defender, with Ian Maatsen at left-back.
Emery could have called upon Lamare Bogarde but instead opted to have the Frenchman at centre-back, which eventually backfired for the Lions.
The Villans have a dilemma in defence as Ezri Konsa is the only experienced option, with Pau Torres on the sidelines and Diego Carlos being sold to Fenerbahce.
Mings’ injury will be a big blow for the Birmingham club if it’s serious and they will evidently need reinforcements before 3 February to reinforce their backline.
In other Aston Villa news, an agreement has been reached to extend Emi Buendia’s contract.
