Matty Cash ‘to quit Aston Villa’ after official transfer announcement on Tuesday

Matty Cash is expected to seek an Aston Villa exit in the summer transfer window.

As reported by the Sun on Sunday (12 January, page 58), Monchi was spotted in Madrid recently to watch right-back Andrei Rațiu in action for Rayo Vallecano.

In addition, Fabrizio Romano reported via X previously (6 January), that Villa had opened talks with Celta Vigo over a move for Óscar Mingueza – who is also a right-back. As a result, suggestions have emerged that Cash could be moved on by Villa.

And it looks as though his fate could be sealed after Villa finally announced the signing of a new right-back on Tuesday (21 January), confirming via the club’s official website that they have signed Andrés García from Levante UD.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks Cash will leave in the summer, rather than during the winter transfer window.

“I’m sure that Emery feels right-back is where he needs extra cover,” King said.

“Therefore, that is why Villa have signed this player. I don’t think Emery has been settled with Cash since he arrived in the West Midlands. Bringing in this player will put pressure on Cash, and will force him to raise his performance levels.

“I’m sure they will look to move Cash on in the summer. However, I can’t see him leaving in the winter transfer window. Any club that is involved in Europe, such as Villa, shouldn’t be letting their better squad players leave before the end of the season. However, Cash could look to move on in the summer.”

Matty Cash to leave Aston Villa after Andrés García announcement?

Cash joined Villa from Nottingham Forest in 2020 and has gone on to make 160 appearances for the West Midlands-based outfit.

He has started 14 Premier League games this season. However, with García through the door, and just two years left on Cash’s contract this summer, this could be the 27-year-old’s final season in a Villa shirt.

Cash was linked with a transfer away from the club this past summer, and it looks as though an exit could finally be on the cards provided that García settles in well at Villa Park over the next few months.
