Paul Merson ‘worried’ for Rogers in Arsenal v Aston Villa after what he’s seen
Paul Merson labelled Morgan Rogers as a “top player” ahead of Saturday’s clash between Aston Villa and Arsenal while issuing the worries he has about what he could do to the Gunners.
Villa have a real task on their hands to come away from the Emirates with anything and to do so, they will need to be at their best.
Rogers has been a standout performer under Unai Emery with Merson highlighting the problems he could cause Arsenal when previewing the game live on Sky Sports Main Event [5:17 pm]
Merson said: “[Rogers] is a top player. Give him space and he can run at people and he will cause problems.
“He can drift in and out of games but I’m a big fan of his and my worry is tonight, if he gets on the ball, gets on the half turn, he will run away from the midfield of Arsenal and then you’ve got the movement of [Ollie] Watkins.”
Aston Villa need Rogers at his best v Arsenal
If Villa are to come away from the game with anything, Rogers needs to be at his best.
His creative abilities and willingness to drive forward with the ball could be crucial to Emery’s side and detrimental to that of Arsenal.
Defenders hate seeing someone running at you with pace and with the ability Rogers has in the final third, it can often be the difference in closely contested encounters.

With Watkins leading the line, the duo have serious potential to link up together and cause problems throughout the evening.
He will need to be at his best if he is to influence the game against one of the best defences in Europe.
