Aston Villa Women confirm Anna Leat exit in ‘mutal consent’ development

Aston Villa Women have confirmed that Anna Leat has departed by mutual consent.

The Villans announced on 12 January that the 23-year-old has expressed her desire to be closer to her family in New Zealand

The B6 club have said that they won’t stand in the way of the goalkeeper which means she is free to depart Villa Park with the January window still open.

Aston Villa confirm Women Anna Leat exit

The New Zealand international joined move to B6 in the summer of 2022 and has made 22 appearances for the West Midlands outfit.

It hasn’t always been easy for the former West Ham keeper in the West Midlands, playing second string to multiple number-one shot-stoppers during her spell with Villa.

This season it has been Sabrina D’Angelo while last campaign it was Daphne van Domselaar who kept her out of the starting picture.

Whether this has had a bearing on a Villa Park exit or not, it is disappointing to see her depart but it is fair to say that she has her reasons.

This will leave Shaun Goater with limited options as a number two to D’Angelo moving into the second half of the campaign.

The former Manchester City striker will be now looking to Sophia Poor to step up into that backup role with 17-year-old Soffia Kelly also representing a potential option.

In other Aston Villa news, Monchi has gone out to Madrid in a “significant” transfer move with a deal now close.
