Aston Villa set for £32m windfall to be used on new signings

Aston Villa could receive a £32million boost with Jaden Philogene and Diego Carlos both set to leave the club in January.

As reported by Dharmesh Sheth via X (10 January), Philogene has passed a medical at Ipswich Town. Therefore, all parties are confident that his £22million move [via Fabrizio Romano, 9 January] will be finalised soon.

Meanwhile, L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi reported via his personal X account (9 January) that Carlos is the most “advanced” lead for Fenerbahçe. According to the Daily Mail (8 January), talks are advancing over a £10million transfer for the defender.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – expects Unai Emery’s side to reinvest this money into incoming transfers this month.

“I think it is time for Carlos to move on,” King said.

“Selling Carlos and Philogene will give the club a £30million-plus boost. Therefore, that money can then be put toward signing players who are linked with the club. Bringing in a couple of players in January would be money well spent.

“Why can’t Villa use the money from the sales of Carlos and Philogene to improve the squad?”

Aston Villa to reinvest funds from Jaden Philogene & Diego Carlos sales?

Emery’s side haven’t been at their best this season. Therefore, strengthening the squad in January probably wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially if Philogene and Carlos both leave.

However, many would consider it a mistake that Philogene returned to Villa Park in the first place. Therefore, Emery will want to ensure that any incoming transfers this month will improve the squad.

And with the club set for a £32million boost, there are no excuses not to sign some top-quality players.
