Aston Villa to be fined as suspensions mooted after FA charge – Insider

Aston Villa are expected to be fined and could also be hit with behind-the-scenes suspensions.

As reported by BBC Sport on Thursday (9 January), Villa, Newcastle United and a staff member from each club have been charged by the Football Association after an incident at halftime during the Magpies’ controversial 3-0 Premier League win over Unai Emery’s side at St James’ Park on Boxing Day (26 December).

Officials behind the scenes are already expected to be fined after their comments in the aftermath of the defeat to Newcastle.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – expects more punishment to follow.

“It sounds like an altercation which was something over nothing,” King said.

“That whole game, including when Jhon Duran was sent off, it felt as though the two sets of staff were at it from the first minute, which led to the players getting involved in one or two things. I think the staff should start looking at themselves.

“What is the point in getting yourselves involved in these situations? I’m not sure what kind of money Villa will be fined – there might even be some suspensions for the staff. However there will be a fine, that is for sure.”

Unai Emery’s side haven’t been at their best on the pitch in recent weeks. Therefore, the last thing the Villa boss needs now is for the club to be fined.

As a result, the Spaniard must have words with his staff behind the scenes to ensure things such as this don’t happen again.

However, these off-field incidents provide an unwelcome distraction and therefore must be stamped out.
