Aston Villa ready to trigger huge release clause for brand-new signing

Aston Villa are willing to pay the £16.7million release clause to Celta Vigo for Oscar Mingueza, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet reported on 10 January that talks are underway with the La Liga side who also must consult with Barcelona who have an option to match any offer for the 25-year-old.

The Catalans also have a 50 per cent sell-on clause for the Spain international so if Hansi Flick’s side don’t match a bid, the deal will go through for the Villans.

Negotiations with Monchi are underway at Villa Park with the B6 club the only outfit ready to pay the release clause for the versatile defender.

Aston Villa could beat Barcelona to sign Oscar Mingueza

There is no doubt that Unai Emery needs a right-back addition for his squad after a struggle across the first half of the season.

Matty Cash has been trusted to be a regular defender in that position but has also been caught out at different points.

This has seen Ezri Konsa utilised as a full back but that hasn’t always worked out and the England international has been slammed at times for his performances.

It is also clear that the Villa boss has a lack of trust in Kosta Nedeljkovic who has found himself on the fringes throughout the season.

With all that being said, it makes complete sense for Monchi and Co. to bring in Mingueza as a versatile option with the hope of him having a positive impact across the rest of the campaign.

To find a regular international for under £20m could prove to be a bargain in a move which only improves the Villans’ squad.
