Jhon Duran exit: Clinton Morrison says if Aston Villa will sell striker

Aston Villa can’t sell Jhon Duran in the winter transfer window, Clinton Morrison says.

The former Crystal Palace forward believes the Villans need the Colombian as they fight for a place in the Champions League knockout stages.

There’s “absolutely no chance” that the Lions will part ways with the 21-year-old in January.

Speaking on Football Daily’s Premier League Review (5 January), Morrison said: “No way. Absolutely no chance.

“I think you need the two strikers for what Villa are fighting for. They’re still in the Champions League. I think you need Duran and Ollie Watkins. It’s good, healthy competition.”

Jhon Duran January transfer is a no-go for Aston Villa

Duran has established himself as the number one under Unai Emery after being behind Watkins in the pecking order.

The Colombia international made most of his appearances off the bench at the start of the season but has become a key player for the Villans after some impressive displays.

After starting four back-to-back Premier League games for the Lions, the 21-year-old has been unavailable in the last two matches after picking up a red card against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Duran has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa in the current campaign, scoring 12 goals.

While there has been talk of the striker leaving Villa Park over the last few months, it would be foolish of the Lions to get rid of him.

Watkins has not been at his best this season, making the Colombian’s presence in the squad even more crucial.

The Villans still have a chance of making the top four, as they are just four points behind Chelsea.

With UCL qualification also in their hands, the Birmingham club must ensure they keep their squad’s core members in the winter window.
