Douglas Luiz return: Aston Villa deal on the cards in Juventus transfer twist
Aston Villa are open to re-signing midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan during the January transfer window, according to TBR Football.
The online source reports [6 January] that sources close to the Brazilian have informed him that he is allowed to leave the Serie A giants this month, having struggled to adapt since his £42million [BBC Sport].
It is understood that while only a loan deal would be available to the Villans, the club is considering the move, and Juventus are looking to strike a loan deal with an obligation to buy in a future window.
Douglas Luiz to return to Aston Villa in new transfer twist?
While some fans might see Luiz’s potential return as a step backwards for Unai Emery’s side, it would be silly to turn down a deal for a midfielder of such calibre.
The 26-year-old is proven in the Premier League after five years at Villa Park, and with the Villans also competing in the Champions League, it makes sense to add some depth to the squad.
Emery has been dealt an extremely difficult hand with injuries this season, currently without Pau Torres and Diego Carlos, and this comes after a number of blows during the campaign already.
Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey, Tyrone Mings, Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana have all spent time in the treatment room this term, leaving the manager short far too often.

While Onana, Kamara and Youri Tielemans are more than capable of holding down the fort in the centre of midfield, it would not hurt to add another established figure to those ranks this month.
Luiz has played just 13 games since making his move to Turin during the summer so a homecoming for the Brazilian could be quite an emotional one if a deal were to come to fruition in the coming weeks.
