Aston Villa in talks to sign Marco Asensio as £24.8m transfer news emerges
Aston Villa are “in talks” to sign Paris Saint Germain and Spain midfielder Marco Asensio with the 28-year-old said to be out of favour in France, according to CaughtOffside.
The news outlet reported on 3 January that the Villans want to sign the midfielder who has had a price tag of around £24.8million slapped on his head.
Randal Kolo Muani has also been linked with a move to Villa Park (L’Equipe) with the Premier League side keen to add to their depth with a Champions League push in mind.
Newcastle and Arsenal are also said to be interested in a deal for Asensio with Spanish clubs also monitoring the situation.
Marco Asensio to sign for Aston Villa?
Given his stature in football, Asensio’s signing seems like a no-brainer with several years still ahead of him especially given his price tag.
For £24.8m, Villa would be getting a player who has earned recognition for his performances across several top European leagues while also impressing on international duty with Spain having made 38 career performances for his country.
The Villans may have to sell in a bid to improve their financial status described as “tight” by the Telegraph with Diego Carlos linked with a move away.

If Aston Villa can muster up a deal for the Spaniard, they would be getting an extremely talented player with capabilities to perform across several areas of the pitch which would be a valuable asset to Unai Emery.
Asensio will no doubt have plenty of exit routes from PSG and Villa will face stern competition in the race to sign him but the prospect of playing under Emery could be a factor in his decision.
In other Aston Villa news, a return to Villa Park for this player would make sense says Darren Bent.
