Lewis Dobbin close to Aston Villa exit already as January loan deal on the cards
Norwich City are closing in on a deal to sign Aston Villa outcast Lewis Dobbin on loan, according to Fraser Fletcher.
The TEAMtalk journalist reported [2 January] that the Canaries are close to completing a straight loan, with no buy clause included, leaving just final details to be worked out.
Dobbin’s West Brom loan is set to be cut short, having only made one start in the Championship, the and Villa are already planning for his next destination once he returns from The Hawthorns.
Lewis Dobbin to leave Aston Villa already after return from West Brom
The Villans have certainly drawn the short straw from the deal after they received Dobbin from Everton for £9m while Tim Iroegbunam went the other way to Goodison Park and became an important player [BBC Sport].
While the young midfielder has been injured for the past few weeks, he has made a much bigger impact for Sean Dyche than Dobbin has during his loan spell under Carlos Corberan.
The 21-year-old failed to register a single goal contribution in his 18 appearances for Albion, though that should not be a surprise given his lack of impact while with the Merseysiders.
It remains to be seen how much patience the Villans have left for the young forward, with players in the club’s academy far more talented and far more deserving of first-team opportunities.

Whether he plays up front or the left wing, the likes of Ollie Watkins, Jhon Duran, Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey, Morgan Rogers and John McGinn would all be above him in the pecking order at Villa Park.
It makes no sense to keep Dobbin at Villa Park for the second half of the campaign, and with Norwich already close to a deal, Villa will not have to think about him for another six months.
