Jhon Duran to be fined and hit with five-match ban – Aston Villa insider

Jhon Duran will be fined after being charged with improper conduct by the Football Association, according to an Aston Villa insider.

As reported by BBC Sport on Tuesday (31 December) the 21-year-old has been charged after his reaction to being sent off in the 3-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Boxing Day (26 December), with Gabriel Agbonlahor less than impressed by this news.

Duran’s red card sparked a lot of outrage, including from a couple of officials in the West Midlands, with Villa expected to be fined as a result of the pair’s outburst.

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – is certain that Duran will also be punished financially while refusing to rule out an increased ban for the striker.

“Obviously, he was disappointed, as were the Villa fans and staff,” King said.

“I personally don’t think he should have been sent off. However, his behaviour as he left the pitch was not acceptable. Therefore, obviously, he is going to be fined.

“As disappointing as the decision was, footballers need to realise they’re role models. Duran’s actions as he left the pitch were not becoming of a professional footballer.

“I think the punishment will be a tough one. He could certainly get another two matches on top of the three he is already set to miss.”

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran to be fined by the FA?

If Duran is fined, it would be hard for the Colombian to have many complaints, regardless of whether or not the sending-off was harsh.

However, while the player might be worried about the financial hit, supporters will be more interested in his suspension. Duran is already set to miss at least two more domestic matches after Villa’s appeal was rejected by the FA.

Therefore, any further punishment could see the forward miss most of January, which would be a huge blow for Unai Emery.
