Gabby Agbonlahor rages at ‘Pathetic’ Duran news at Aston Villa today
Jhon Duran has been charged by the FA for his behaviour after his red card as Aston Villa lost 3-0 against Newcastle on Boxing Day, leaving Gabby Agbonlahor infuriated.
Sky Sports News revealed on 31 December that the striker has until Friday (3 January) to respond after he was charged for kicking a water bottle after he was given his marching orders at St. James’ Park last Thursday, 26 December.
Duran is already serving a three-game ban and Agbonlahor reckons the decision to charge him further is pitiful.
“Pathetic”, the former Villa captain wrote on X in response to a post by Sky Sports News (31 December).
In another post, Agbonlahor expressed his frustration at Wolves’ Matheus Cunha being hit with only a two-match ban for violent conduct against Ipswich and slammed the injustice against Duran.
“Cunha two-game ban for assault? Can’t make it up?”, he wrote.
“So much for a Happy New Year man, I’m sick of it. Justice for Duran.”
Jhon Duran controversy continues at Aston Villa
Duran was sent off just after the half-hour mark in Villa’s 3-0 defeat in Tyneside after he was adjudged to have stamped on Fabian Schar.
The Colombia international cut a frustrated figure afterwards as he angrily kicked a water bottle as he left the pitch.
Having been shown a straight red card, the 21-year-old has to serve a three-game suspension, of which he served the first as Unai Emery’s side played out a 2-2 draw with Brighton on Monday, 30 December.
It remains to be seen what Duran has to say about the FA charging him for his behaviour after being given his marching orders on Boxing Day.
Nevertheless, the former Chicago Fire hitman will be forced to sit out Villa’s upcoming games against Leicester and West Ham in the Premier League and the FA Cup respectively, with potentially more to come.
Ollie Watkins returned to Emery’s starting line-up in Duran’s absence against Brighton and marked the occasion by netting one of their two goals.
The Englishman will be determined to reclaim his place as Villa’s first-choice number nine before Duran returns.
In other Aston Villa news, this Villa ace has been tipped to move to the Championship in the January transfer window.
