Buendia done under Emery at Aston Villa after what happened v Brighton

Emi Buendia appears to have no future at Aston Villa.

The Argentine was an unused substitute once again as the Villans picked up a point on Monday (30 December) despite goals from Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers.

After Villa took an early second-half lead, changes made a difference for Fabian Hürzeler’s side before Tariq Lamptey scored a leveller.

The result could have been different at Villa Park if Unai Emery had been quicker with his changes but it is telling that Buendia wasn’t handed a chance again.

The 28-year-old remained on the bench for the entirety of the clash against the Seagulls despite the away side taking charge as the second half went on.

With Kaoru Mitoma, Georginio Rutter and Yankuba Minteh coming on, it was clear that Hürzeler had more quality to call upon as the game went on which made a difference.

Reacting to this, Emery opted to bring on Jacob Ramsey in an attack-minded switch to help change the tide but the England Under-21 international has been out through injury since early November.

This just proves that Buendia has fallen down the pecking order at B6 and even an injury-cropped option is being selected ahead of the former Norwich City star.

With the draw at Villa Park being the last until the January transfer window opens, the attacking midfielder could now be on his way out.

There is likely to be multiple interested parties in a move which could push Villa’s number 10 to the forefront of his manager’s thinking ahead of next season.
