Aston Villa can make Konsa upgrade by signing player out of contract in June

Aston Villa should try to sign Kyle Walker-Peters to replace Ezri Konsa at right back after a poor showing against Brighton.

The Villans took a point at Villa Park on Monday (30 December) against the Seagulls despite going ahead in the second half through Morgan Rogers.

Tariq Lamptey scored a late equaliser and the game finished level but it was the opening goal which will be cause for concern for Unai Emery.

Lewis Dunk’s long ball was misjudged by Konsa who allowed Joao Pedro to get a touch before Simon Adingra curled his effort past Emi Martinez.

Alarm bells must be ringing behind the scenes with this piece of defending and could see a new option come in either in the January or summer transfer window.

Aston Villa could sign Kyle Walker-Peters on pre-contract

The England international is arguably the best centre-back available in the B6 squad, which makes it all the more bizarre that he is constantly forced to right-back.

Given that Matty Cash was suspended, there was a reason against Brighton but with Kosta Nedeljkovic available, the young Serb could have been utilised.

If Emery doesn’t trust the 19-year-old, a new signing could be necessary and Walker-Peters on a free or cheap deal could suit the Villans well.

The Southampton defender is out of contract in the summer so Monchi could look to negotiate a fee for a deal in January to provide competition for Cash.

Adding the 27-year-old to the squad at Villa Park will allow Konsa to remain at the heart of defence which can only make his performances better.

The ex-Tottenham man would be a well-received signing especially if he gets the best out of other stars either in the second half of this season or even next season.
