Arsenal precedent set as Jhon Duran faces new Aston Villa ban

Keith Hackett is not surprised Jhon Duran has been hit with a further Football Association (FA) charge, with a previous precedent being set at Arsenal.

Duran has been charged with improper conduct by the FA over his angry reaction to being sent off in the 3-0 loss to Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

Villa had that appeal against a three-game ban rejected – much to the annoyance of those high up at Villa Park – and Duran now faces further punishment for kicking a water bottle on the sidelines before making his way down the tunnel.

Former PGMOL chief Hackett says an extension to his three-game ban cannot be ruled out, as he pointed to a similar charge for Arsene Wenger during his time in charge of Arsenal.

“I said from the outset that he will get an extension to his current ban following his on-field red card,” Hackett exclusively told Villa News.

I can remember Arsenal’s former manager Arsene Wenger getting a suspension after kicking a bottle at Old Trafford many years ago.

Duran’s sending off against Newcastle divided opinion, with some feeling he was rightly dismissed and others – such as Gabby Agbonlahor – arguing it was a terrible decision.

The fact the suspension has been upheld is telling, and now further punishment potentially awaits.

Duran has until later this week to respond, and it is likely that he will just be hit with a fine of some sort rather than another game being added to his already-harsh ban.

Lessons will be learned from this, but do not expect the fiery Colombian to change his character entirely when his suspension is up.
