Unai Emery could regret Tielemans decision – Aston Villa confirmed XI v Brighton

Unai Emery has chosen to start Youri Tielemans for the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Brighton on Monday (30 December) as three changes have been made.

The Villans are looking to get back to winning ways after their 3-0 defeat last time out against Newcastle on Boxing Day (26 December).

Their performance against the Magpies was arguably one of their worst of the season with Jhon Duran getting himself red-carded for a moment of violent conduct in the game, a consequent appeal falling on deaf ears.

Villa announced their lineup for the game against the Seagulls via their official X account (30 December) with Emery opting to bring in Diego Carlos, Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey for Matty Cash, Amadou Onana and Duran.

Much like some of his other teammates, Tielemans didn’t put in the best of performances in their Boxing Day clash.

However, despite being hooked at the 45-minute mark against Newcastle, Emery has chosen to start the Belgian against Fabian Hurzeler’s men.

As per Sofascore (30 December), in the 45 minutes the Belgian was on the pitch, he had 25 touches of the ball and maintained a pass accuracy of 75 per cent.

As none of his 12 completed passes were key, it shows how poor he was on the attack.

In addition, when the fact that zero per cent of his long balls or crosses made it to their intended target is taken into account, it further amplifies how poor he was against the Magpies, which is why Emery could regret his decision.

Defensively, he wasn’t at the races either as he made two tackles, lost possession of the ball eight times and even made one error that led to a shot.

Here’s hoping that the midfielder can put in a better shift than what he did last time out otherwise things could end rather badly for the Spaniard and his men.
