Aston Villa senior duo face FA charge amid latest Duran development

Aston Villa chiefs Monchi and Damian Vidagany could be in line to face charges from the FA.

The pair have been very outspoken on social media after Jhon Duran was sent off for alleged violent conduct against Newcastle United on 26 December.

The Colombia international saw his suspension appeal rejected and as a result, will miss the next three Premier League games.

Duran may not be the only person in B6 to face punishment after what Monchi and Vidagany said about the decision.

The President of Football Operations at Villa Park is typically a quiet figure but this moment left a sour taste in the mouth which he couldn’t shake.

Taking to X on 27 December, he said: “We can understand a mistake because to err is human, but to insist on the mistake only creates doubts about the system. I came from a place where the motto is never surrender.

“So here we say the same thing, we will not surrender and we will continue fighting for our club. Up the Villa.”

This view was echoed by the Director of Football Operations Vidagany who questioned the match officials’ credibility after opting to send the Villa striker off.

Also speaking via X on 27 December, he said: “Three matches for Jhon Duran. You know what? The most damaged here is not Villa. It is the credibility of the ones that made this decision.

“We are going to keep fighting, nothing will destroy us and we will overcome all these unfair decisions. And we will behave like gentlemen.”

It would come as a surprise if both of the Villans’ boardroom pair go without an FA charge for these comments with the latter in particular likely to be in trouble.

When questioning the credibility of a referee you have to tread carefully and it doesn’t appear that the director has done so.

It is unclear what the punishment could be from the Football Association but whatever they decide may prove to be a fair decision.
