Monchi hits out after FA response to Jhon Duran incident at Aston Villa
Monchi has hit out after the Football Association confirmed that Jhon Duran’s red card for Aston Villa against Newcastle United would not be overturned.
The 21-year-old was shown a straight red card in the 32nd minute of the 3-0 defeat for an alleged stamp on Fabian Schar although the decision caused controversy with many feeling Duran slipped rather than purposefully hurting his opponent.
However, despite the Villans appealing the decision, the FA announced on Friday (27 December) that the red card would not be overturned with the on-pitch decision being supported.
The decision was a surprise for many and Villa’s president of football operations did not hold back in his analysis as he posted on X: “We can understand a mistake because to err is human, but to insist on the mistake only creates doubts about the system.
“I came from a place where the motto is never surrender. So here we say the same thing, we will not surrender and we will continue fighting for our club. Up the Villa”
Jhon Duran red card harsh outcome for Aston Villa
Ever since the red card was shown during the game, there has been plenty of debate on the challenge with the overwhelming feeling that this was harsh and there wasn’t much Duran could do in the situation.
Therefore, it’s no surprise to see that many are shocked by the FA’s decision not to accept the appeal and rescind the card which would make the striker available for the clash against Brighton.
The young striker didn’t have the calmest of reactions when he left the field, kicking a water bottle on the sideline before making his way down the tunnel, which could have played some part in the decision to uphold the on-pitch decision.
Villa will now have to make do without the in-form striker while he serves his ban and hope that going forward, Duran can display a bit of a calmer mindset in any similar situations in the future.
