Aston Villa legend tells Arsenal to sign Newcastle ace after St James’ scenes
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak in the January transfer window after his performance against Aston Villa.
As Villa lost 3-0 away at Newcastle on Thursday (26 December), Isak scored his side’s second goal in the 59th minute as well as scoring a goal that was flagged for offside.
It was a poor day for Unai Emery’s side, who went down to 10 men after Jhon Duran was controversially sent off in the 32nd minute of the game.
After the game, Villa legend Agbonlahor was quick to take a swipe at Newcastle as he posted on X [27 December]: “Isak needs to move to a bigger club.
“Arsenal should do whatever it takes to sign him in January in my opinion.”

The red card for Duran was a controversial one, hence why Agbonlahor may have been keen to highlight that he doesn’t see Newcastle as a big club and therefore urged Arsenal to sign him in the January transfer window.
However, regardless of the decision, the Magpies did put on a really strong display against their opponents and came away with the victory, Isak being a standout player in the 90 minutes.
The Swedish striker has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park, although as it stands his current side are probably in a good place to keep him, especially knowing what he can deliver in black and white.
Villa and Newcastle are two sides that frequently find themselves being compared of late due to their rises up the table, but the victory put the Magpies on top in that comparison at the moment.
Therefore, Agbonlahor’s comments were surely a reminder to the North-Eastern side that they are not one of the biggest sides in the league, with the suggestion their best players could thrive elsewhere.
