Jhon Duran in 1/10 disaster, 7/10 stars – Aston Villa player ratings v Newcastle
Aston Villa lost 3-0 to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Boxing Day.
Unai Emery named an unchanged starting lineup against the Magpies on 26 December as he looked to build a winning run.
The Villans beat Manchester City 2-1 on 21 December in the English top flight, and the Spanish manager didn’t think any changes were necessary.
Eddie Howe’s team came out strong and took the lead in the second minute of the game through Anthony Gordon, before Alexander Isak and Joelinton extended the lead.
Here, Villa News have shared their player ratings for the Newcastle clash, with stats provided by FotMob.
Emi Martinez – 6
Martinez made some brilliant saves during the game but couldn’t do much with the goals he conceded, with an xGOT of 3.14 in the 90 minutes. The shot-stopper wasn’t great with the ball at his feet, though, with 60 per cent passing accuracy and 35 per cent long ball accuracy.
Matty Cash [Substituted in the 69th minute ] – 3
Cash had a hard time against the Magpies’ attack, losing 50 per cent of his ground duels, committing two fouls, being dribbled past once and winning none of his tackles. The Polish national was also unremarkable going forward, with zero per cent crossing accuracy.
Ezri Konsa – 6
Konsa was one of the better defenders at the back for the Villans, with 93 per cent passing accuracy and winning 100 per cent of his ground duels.
Pau Torres – 3
Torres failed to be his usual calm and composed self on the ball, failing to find a teammate with all four of his long balls.
Lucas Digne – 6
Digne tired to contribute both defensively and attack, but his efforts on both ends of the pitch weren’t enough to make any impact on the final scoreline.
Boubacar Kamara [Substituted in the 69th minute ] – 6
Kamara tried to provide solidity in the engine room, making one block, one clearance, four recoveries and winning 83 per cent of his duels. The Frenchman also had 82 per cent passing accuracy and 100 per cent successful dribbles.
Amadou Onana – 7
Up until his error for the third goal, Onana was trying his best for the Lions. The Belgian won 11 of his 12 duels, was fouled thrice and completed 83 per cent of his passes.
