Tyrone Mings could quit Aston Villa in January with replacement lined up

Tyrone Mings could soon be on his way out of Aston Villa.

Mings has made just three appearances since returning from a long-term injury earlier this season, yet still managed to get himself involved in a “crazy” situation, which might explain his lack of game time.

It is clear that he isn’t a key player under Unai Emery anymore, and according to TBR Football [20 December], Villa are interested in signing Sunderland defender Daniel Ballard, while they have reportedly also agreed a £6.6million transfer for another centre-back, with a medical booked for January [via IHA, 24 December].

And ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks Ballard could act as a replacement for Mings in the West Midlands.

“I think this has put a question mark over Mings’ future,” King said.

“He’s come back from a very serious injury and it looks as though he is struggling to get back to his previous levels and regain fitness. Therefore, if things aren’t progressing as they should, it puts a doubt over his future.

“As a result, Villa will need to be looking to sign somebody who can replace him.”

Aston Villa to replace Tyrone Mings with Sunderland defender Daniel Ballard?

Mings has been a loyal servant to Villa, making 169 appearances during his time at the club. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it feels as though now might be a natural time for the Englishman to move on.

It doesn’t seem as though he is a part of the plans anymore and is therefore unlikely to be handed a new contract.

As a result, if Villa want to cash in on the player and receive a fee, a deal will need to be agreed in January, and that money can then be put toward incoming transfers, such as a potential deal for Jack Grealish.
