Aston Villa fans defended after what they did to Jack Grealish recently

Scott Minto has defended Aston Villa supporters after Michael Owen hit out at their treatment of Jack Grealish recently.

Grealish returned to Villa Park on Saturday [21 December] with his Manchester City side who were beaten 2-1 by the Villans.

Supporters were on his back with jeers throughout the game which their former player responded to by holding up three fingers to show the amount of titles he has won since his departure.

Owen hit out at the home supporters for their behaviour arguing that it was wrong.

However, Minto disagreed with this take on talkSPORT [24 December: 12:47] saying: “No, not really. I think it’s a shame in a way but it is what it is.

“He left their club and it’s what makes football for me the number one sport in the world. It’s so tribal you know, you’re a hero one minute and you decide to leave, and he did decide to leave, but he also decided to leave to sign a big contract first which then allowed the £100million clause to come in and he actually almost in that sense helped Aston Villa get £100m.

“So look, is it right? Not really. Is it football? You know whenever we got stick I always used to think you know what I’m doing something I absolutely love, I’m getting paid to do, take it.

“Just keep your head down and that’s exactly what he did.”

Aston Villa fans mocked Jack Grealish

Aston Villa fans did poke fun at their former player throughout Saturday’s game as the Champions fell to another loss, carrying on their run of dismal form this season.

However, Grealish was quick to have his fun back towards the fans and it feels as though Owen was quick to look over this when he blasted the home supporters for what they did.

In the 90 minutes, the two were opponents but the winger remains a Villa fan and supporters will no doubt always be grateful for what he did for the club both on the pitch and in allowing them to get a massive fee for him which helped them replace the hole he left in the side.

As Minto says, this is football and it can be a fickle game at times. However, none of the chants were personally attacking Grealish and therefore, it doesn’t feel necessary to make it a big situation going forward.
