Aston Villa chief blasts Troy Deeney over BBC Sport claim
Aston Villa club ambassador Ahmed Elmohamady has slammed Troy Deeney for his BBC Sport Team of the Week selection.
The Villans picked up an excellent win against Manchester City on Saturday (21 December) thanks to goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers.
There were plenty of star performers at Villa Park but former Birmingham City striker Deeney opted not to select any of Unai Emery’s men in his Team of the Week.
Club ambassador and former Villa defender Elmohamady took issue with this on X (23 December) as he said: “Not a single Villa Player. Surprised that he didn’t pick himself.”
Ahmed Elmohammady slams Troy Deeney for Aston Villa absence
There is no doubt that the Villans deserved at least one player in the Team of the Week after a stellar performance in B6.
It is difficult to select just one player who is deserving of a place in this side which makes it all the more bizarre why Deeney missed them all out.
Duran and Rogers were on the scoresheet with two excellently taken strikes which ultimately secured all three points.
The forwards were supplemented well by the midfielders who were excellent on the day with John McGinn’s dogged attitude causing issues for City’s stars.
Those in the middle of the park helped the backline to shine and despite conceding, there were plenty of positives to take from the defenders.
There are plenty who deserve a place in this side to reward them for their performances but they won’t be losing any sleep after missing out, that is for sure.
