Lineker stunned by ‘absolutely magnificent’ Aston Villa ace amid MOTD footage
Gary Lineker was in awe of “absolutely magnificent” Morgan Rogers after his performance for Aston Villa in the 2-1 win against Manchester City.
The 22-year-old single-handedly orchestrated the victory against Man City on Saturday [21 December] after assisting Jhon Duran for the opening goal and scoring the eventual match-winner at Villa Park.
Lineker was gushing over his display alongside co-host Alan Shearer on Match of the Day [21 December, 28:31] as Rogers pulled all the strings in the clash.
Shearer said: “He goes past three or four players with ease there Rogers in the midfield without anyone really getting close to him. He was absolutely magnificent he was.
Lineker added: “He has great today wasn’t he?”

Unai Emery has rewarded Rogers with an extended spell in the first team this season, and the decision is starting to pay off in dividends.
The England international produced his best display in a Villa shirt on Saturday afternoon, and despite Man City heading into the clash in a horrid spell of form, Rogers ensured Pep Guardiola’s misery continued.
Although his form has wavered at times while Aston Villa have struggled to find consistency this year, he has been essential in helping his side record four wins from the last five outings across all competitions to put the Villans firmly back in contention for the top four.
The forward has thrived operating behind the striker, whether that be Ollie Watkins or Duran and he, alongside the latter, can be the future of Aston Villa.
There is still a long way to go before Rogers can be considered within the upper echelons of the Premier League elite, but the Villa faithful are witnessing one of the most impressive breakout campaigns in the top flight.
