Emiliano Buendia could leave Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, according to Jacob Tanswell.

The former Norwich man has made seven Premier League appearances off the bench so far this campaign, featuring for a grand total of 37 minutes.

Morgan Rogers has started ahead of Buendia in every league match so far and the Argentina international has only made two starts in the EFL Cup.

Writing in The Athletic [13 December], Tanswell reports that the Argentinian could leave Villa Park if he cannot forge a first-team role under Unai Emery, saying: "He remains patient and is focused on being a success at Villa, but knows the current situation is not sustainable.

"A potential loan move in January is unlikely, with the hope — rather than expectation — being that he contributes later on in the campaign, otherwise a summer move will be on the cards."

Buendia Aston Villa exit could be on the cards

The fact that the Villans are looking for reinforcements in attacking midfield [Birmingham World, 4 December] should worry the Argentine star.

He is firmly behind Rodgers in the pecking order and despite the former Middlesbrough man's fitness issues, Buendia still has not had a look in.

It is beginning to seem like he will never hit the heights that the move to Villa Park was supposed to take him towards.

Signed in the summer of 2021 for a club-record fee at the time of £38 million, Buendia has never really had an outstanding moment with the Villans.

Time is running out for Buendia to adapt to Unai Emery's demands and forge himself a place in the first-team as a reliable option.

If he fails, he may find himself wondering what could have been and regretting the time he spent in the Midlands.
