Emery could axe Carlos for Aston Villa clash v Forest – Sky Sports journalist

Tyrone Mings could be in line to start for Aston Villa in place of Diego Carlos against Nottingham Forest, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

The Villans travel to the City Ground on Saturday (14 December) off the back of a 3-2 Champions League win against RB Leipzig.

Unai Emery utilised a back three against the Bundesliga outfit with the Brazilian in the centre, flanked by Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell can see Mings starting in place of the 31-year-old to help counteract the physicality of Chris Wood.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Because Bailey is out, I think we’ll see the same formation of three at the back against Forest.

They’ve got Chris Wood who is a physical presence so having the extra man in defence might help Villa.

I actually think Emery will play three at the back and we might see Mings play with Konsa and Torres.

We might end up seeing that same system again but with Mings in for Carlos.

The England international made his first Premier League start of the season against Brentford and performed excellently and could now be in line for another.

The clash against Forest will see the Villa backline come up against Wood or Taiwo Awoniyi who both pose a physical threat.

Mings is certainly a better option to deal with either striker than Torres who has struggled against strong number nine’s already this campaign.

The ex-Bournemouth man’s introduction could see Carlos drop out which may prove to be justified after some shaky performance this season.
