Diego Carlos on chopping block at Aston Villa amid £41m transfer update
Diego Carlos could be on the way out of Aston Villa after interest was expressed in a £41million-rated defender.
The Brazilian has had his fair share of howlers in a Villa shirt so far this season which is why it isn’t a surprise that Unai Emery wanted to move him on in the summer [Graeme Bailey].
His repeated mistakes against Crystal Palace and Wolves for example were frustrating and have often resulted in him being benched.
With the defender approaching 32, the Villans now look likely to bring in a younger alternative who can be the future of the backline in B6.
Diego Carlos to fear Aston Villa future
It remains unclear as to how much money is going to be available for January signings at Villa Park this winter, but after an up-and-down start to the season, additions are needed.
Defensive reinforcements could prove to be a smart move for Emery given that his side have kept just two Premier League clean sheets all season.
Carlos certainly hasn’t helped contribute towards that number but the addition of Antonio Silva from Benfica could certainly begin a positive trend.
The 21-year-old is seen as one of the brightest defender prospects in Europe and would represent a real coup for the Villans.
Rui Costa and Benfica are prepared to let the Portgual international leave on loan with an option to purchase clause of £41m [TEAMtalk] which could suit Monchi perfectly.

With sides like Atletico Madrid and Juventus also interested in his signature, Villa are fighting with elite opposition to land the centre-back’s signature.
If they can beat their Champions League rivals to the signing of Silva, Carlos would surely be facing a departure from the West Midlands.
