Collymore tells Aston Villa star to bang on Unai Emery’s door making demands
Stan Collymore has urged Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran to demand a starting role from Unai Emery.
The 20-year-old has been in stunning form and has scored ten goals in 23 appearances in all competitions including a stunning strike against RB Leipzig on Tuesday (10 December).
That feat is made even more impressive by the fact that the former Chicago Fire man playing a total of just 790 minutes so far this campaign, with Ollie Watkins preferred up-front .
In his column on Caught Offside, Collymore questioned how long it would take for the Colombian to start making demands, saying: “Jhon Duran will be knocking on Unai Emery’s door again after a fabulous performance from the Aston Villa sub. How long is it before he starts to get a little bit vocal in his need to start games?
“Ollie Watkins could do with a little bit of a break from time to time, and the manager knows that when Duran comes on he invariably scores.”
Duran deserves to start for Aston Villa
The Colombian forward’s devastating form cannot be ignored by Emery for much longer.
In his first Premier League start of the season last Saturday (7 December), he scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Southampton.
He returned to the bench for the Champions League win over Leipzig on Tuesday but came on at half-time and scored the Villans second goal within seven minutes.
Having two strikers in great form is the best problem for a manager to have, so Emery will not concerned for now.
However, the young forward may decide to leave if he is not given a permanent starting berth in the near future and was linked with an £80 million move to Manchester United by Troy Deeney on talkSPORT (11 December).
Surely it is only a matter of time before Duran is given what he wants, he is in too good form to not be.
