Aston Villa given green light for Joel Ordonez transfer after what he’s said
Joel Ordonez has opened the door for a potential January transfer to Aston Villa after commenting on the links regarding his future at Club Brugge.
The Villans are targeting a move for the Ecuadorian ahead of the winter transfer window after his impressive performances in the Belgian Pro League and Champions League this term [Caught Offside].
Unai Emery is eager to bolster his defensive ranks at Villa Park after recently ending an eight-match winless streak across all competitions and could now be free to pursue one of his top targets.
Ordonez has spoken out about the ongoing speculation regarding his future in a pre-match press conference for Club Brugge, as relayed by TBR Football [10 December].
He said: “The Premier League, I would like that.”
Aston Villa could sign Joel Ordonez in January
The 20-year-old will be a highly-coveted commodity heading into the January transfer window, with Newcastle United and Liverpool also interested in acquiring the defender’s services.
Monchi may already be facing a losing battle to bring the Ecuadorian international to Villa Park, with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules expected to restrict the transfer business for Aston Villa once again.
Club Brugge value the centre-back at £25million, which is pocket change for Newcastle and Liverpool, but the Villans will struggle to sanction the funds without a sale.
However, Emery lacks the required depth in the centre-back position, with Pau Torres, Tyrone Mings and Diego Carlos the only senior options at Villa Park.

The latter looked destined to depart for Fulham in the summer but remained with Aston Villa and has enjoyed a first team resurgence as of late – putting the Brazilian on the chopping block again would defeat the purpose of acquiring another centre-back.
Therefore, the door may be open to pursue Ordonez, but the Villans could lack the means to complete the deal.
This move will all come down to how badly Emery wants the defender in Birmingham, and who he is willing to sacrifice to make it happen.
