Philogene could be in line for Aston Villa start after showing in Brentford win

Jaden Philogene could be in line for an Aston Villa start after his showing as a substitute in the win against Brentford on Wednesday.

The Villans welcomed Thomas Frank’s side to Villa Park on 4 December and secured a hard-fought three points which looked shaky at times.

Goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash put Villa 3-0 up before Mikkel Damsgaard scored just minutes after half time.

Substitutions from Unai Emery ultimately helped his side ease to victory with Philogene one name who came on and caught the eye for all the right reasons.

Despite a lack of touches, the England Under-21 international maintained an 89 per cent pass accuracy while also completing two dribbles.

The winger helped out at the back with one defensive action and two recoveries which helped to see the game out, which Emery will be pleased to see.

Philogene also put himself about, winning two duels during his cameo in B6 which was closer to what supporters want to see from him.

This compares closely to his main competition in the squad, Leon Bailey who only won three duels of his own despite featuring across 65 minutes.

With a home clash against Southampton coming up, there is no reason why the Englishman won’t be in the running to come back into the starting XI.

The ex-Hull City youngster needs to find his feet in the Premier League and adapt to the demands that Emery sets, which he hasn’t done until this point.
