Coventry have perfect chance to sign Swinkels as Aston Villa loan exit news emerges

Coventry have the perfect chance to sign Aston Villa youngster Sil Swinkels after it emerged that he will be allowed to leave the club on loan in January.

The 20-year-old remained with the first-team squad in the summer transfer window due to Tyrone Mings’ injury issues instead of leaving the club on loan.

The Athletic report that the club are now planning to sanction a loan move to a Championship or League One club with Wycombe and Peterborough interested in the Dutch youth international.

However, Coventry could be a perfect destination for Swinkels as new manager Frank Lampard seeks fresh talent to steer the club away from the relegation zone and back towards the play-off places with the Dutchman’s towering frame and passing ability.

Swinkels would benefit from senior experience away from Aston Villa

The youngster made his full senior Villans debut in the Carabao Cup third-round clash against Wycombe on September 24, impressing Villa podcaster Ty Bracey in a 2-1 victory.

He could prove to be a ready-made replacement for 27-year-old Pau Torres, who is one of the club’s best players and a crucial asset with the ball at his feet.

The latest news on a potential loan move to the Championship or League One is no surprise, it has proved beneficial to many young players in the past.

The likes of Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins have thrived in the Championship before becoming Premier League stars and Swinkels will hope to do the same.

The Dutch youngster needs to play regularly at senior level if he to become a Premier League player in the future.

A loan move will allow him to show Unai energy that can be a reliable option at the heart of his defence, showing off his physicality and prowess with the ball at his feet.

In other Aston Villa news, a BBC pundit was stunned by what ‘extraordinary’ Ollie Watkins did against Juventus.
