Malik Tillman release clause news emerges as Aston Villa, Man United eye deal
Malik Tillman’s release clause doesn’t become active until the summer as Aston Villa and several other clubs circle in January, according to Sky Sport Germany.
Sky Sport reported on 29 November that while there have been several “concrete inquiries” over the PSV forward’s January availability, a release clause worth between £25–£33million is yet to come into effect.
Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham are just three of the clubs keen on pursuing a deal for the 22-year-old in January, with the USA international having an ambition to move to the Premier League.
Tillman’s former club Bayern Munich possess a buy-back option for the playmaker, who has 12 goal involvements in 19 appearances this season, but a return to Bavaria is seen as “unlikely”.
Aston Villa can make huge statement with Malik Tillman transfer
Villa’s interest in Tillman is nothing new, but there’s still a big question mark over whether Unai Emery’s side would be able to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature, particularly mid-season.
The Villans’ PSR concerns over the course of last season ended up dominating much of their summer business, and such worries would be even more pronounced over a big-money mid-season transfer.

An expected release clause in the range of £25–33m would likely be in Villa’s transfer ball-park once summer comes, but interest in Tillman is so high that they may not be given such a chance.
A January bidding war could see prospective transfer fees for Tillman rise well above what his release clause would be worth to PSV, and as a result the Dutch giants may be keen to encourage such a battle.
It remains to be seen if Villa will look to jump the queue and bid to sign Tillman in January, but if they don’t, expect the likes of a Ruben Amorim-led Manchester United to swoop in ahead of them.
