Aston Villa chiefs have questions to answer over Bodymoor Heath news today

Aston Villa and Accrington Stanley’s FA Youth Cup match being played at Bodymoor Heath rather than Villa Park is disappointing across the board.

Villa posted on their website (29 November) to confirm their Under-18s side would host Accrington at their training ground in 6 December’s third-round tie, despite the fixture usually taking place at Villa Park.

Academy fan page @academyavfc posted on X in response [29 November], expressing their disappointment that the club’s brightest U18s talents would be denied the chance to play at their home stadium.

Villa Park has previously played host to several games for the four-time FA Youth Cup winners, and fans keen for their academy starlets to be given more exposure will demand answers from the club’s board.

Aston Villa youngsters deserve Villa Park chance

While it’s undoubtable that on the field, Villa are a club currently undergoing one of their strongest eras in recent memory, but off it, the club’s action have been anything but Champions League-level.

Prices hikes across the board and a ludicrous ticketing system for those long-awaited European nights has put many fans and pundits at odds with the club’s board, and this decision is no different.

Villa’s youth team players spend their days working hard at Bodymoor Heath hoping for the chance to represent the club at Villa Park, and have often been given opportunities to do so in the FA Youth Cup.

Therefore, denying their current crop of Under-18s the opportunity to do so doesn’t shine the best of lights on a boardroom and decision-making team who are clearly out of sync with the club’s fans.

The next Jaden Philogene or Jacob Ramsey could be ready to put on a show against Accrington on 6 December, and they deserve a chance to show what they can do on the biggest of stages for Villa.
