Ian Maatsen blows Aston Villa shot after what he did v Crystal Palace
Ian Maatsen only damaged his chances of starting regularly for Aston Villa in the draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Villans were far from their best on 23 November which allowed the away side to take the lead twice, exploiting issues in the midfield with ease.
Goals from Ollie Watkins and Ross Barkley were enough for Unai Emery’s side to take away a point from Villa Park but the performance wasn’t at the expected level.
One star who supporters had high hopes for was Maatsen but he failed to impress in his first Premier League start of the season.
Ian Maatsen struggled for Aston Villa v Crystal Palace
The Netherlands international came in from the start against the Eagles despite the form during the international break of Lucas Digne.
It is safe to say that the 22-year-old didn’t make the most of his long-awaited starting opportunity at Villa Park.
The defender signed from Chelsea in the summer registered 61 touches but just five of those came in the opposition penalty area [FotMob] despite him having a reputation as a flying attacking fullback.
When Maatsen did get forward, there weren’t too many positive notes about his game as just 50 per cent of his crosses were accurate while his only shot was blocked, summing up his lack of impact.
This also saw the defender be dispossessed once which helped to pile additional pressure on a struggling Villa defence.
While not contributing in forward areas, the Dutchman also failed to help out defensively as he didn’t complete a single tackle across his 69-minute cameo.

In that time, he made just one interception while winning just 33 per cent of his duels, losing two while committing one foul.
There was very little positive to say about the £37.5m man [Sky Sports] who can’t be hopeful of starting the upcoming clash against Juventus on Wednesday (27 November).
In other Aston Villa news, a deal is being eyed for one star as PSV have revealed the transfer fee they will demand.
