Morgan Rogers in 3/10 shocker – Aston Villa player ratings v Crystal Palace

Unai Emery will be leaving Villa Park with mixed emotions as his Aston Villa side salvaged a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Ismaila Sarr gave the visitors a shock lead in the fourth minute as he beat Ian Maatsen in a footrace and fired his effort past Emi Martinez.

Ollie Watkins found an equaliser for Villa after the half-hour mark but Youri Tielemans cost his side the lead as his woeful 45th-minute penalty was dealt with easily by Dean Henderson.

The Belgian will surely be ruing his miss as Justin Devenny scored his first senior goal in the resulting counterattack to give the visitors the lead heading into the break.

Tielemans, however, atoned for his error by assisting Ross Barkley for the equaliser to end the four-match losing streak.

Here, Villa News rates the player’s performance at Villa Park, with statistics provided by Sofascore.

Aston Villa draw 2-2 against Crystal Palace

Emi Martinez – 6

Martinez made four saves on the day but looked helpless at times against the quick counter attacks of Crystal Palace.

Lamare Bogarde [off for Matty Cash 46′] – 6

The 20-year-old was the unfortunate casualty to Palace’s late first half goal as Matty Cash was introduced for the second 45 minutes. Bogarde was solid defensively winning 66 per cent of his duels but failed to offer anything in the business end of the pitch.

Diego Carlos – 5

The Brazilian struggled to keep pace with the match alongside his centre-back partner Torres and was caught out on far too many occasions as Villa Park.

Pau Torres – 5

Torres failed to exert his usual influence against Crystal Palace and is equally to blame as Carlos for his side conceding two goals at home.

Ian Maatsen [off for Lucas Digne 69′] – 7

Maatsen was excellent going forward for Aston Villa, completing 91 per cent of his passes with one key pass and completing 100 per cent of his dribbles.

Ross Barkley salvages a point for Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

Ross Barkley – 8

Barkley was phenomenal in the centre of the park, scoring his goal from one shot on target for a shot conversion rate of 100 per cent and also won 100 per cent of his duels contested. A complete all-round performance from the midfielder.

Youri Tielemans – 5

Tielemans effectively cost Aston Villa the three points with his crucial penalty miss but somewhat atoned for his error, assisting Barkley for the equaliser.

Leon Bailey [off for Jaden Philogene 81′] – 6

Bailey looked dangerous at times, completing two key passes from his 79 per cent completed, but failed to complete any of his five dribble attempts.

Morgan Rogers [off for Emi Buendia 81′] – 3

Rogers had a poor outing at Villa Park, failing to record a shot on target and completing only 61 per cent of his passes in a non-existent display from the forward.

John McGinn [off for Jhon Duran 69′] – 9

The Villa captain was without a doubt the best player on the pitch against Crystal Palace. McGinn completed 86 per cent of his passes with three key passes, two big chances created and an assist for Ollie Watkins. He also completed 100 per cent of his long balls and won 54 per cent of his duels.

Ollie Watkins – 7

Watkins finally ended his goal drought scoring his goal from two shots on target against Crystal Palace but could have easily added more to his tally on the day.

Substitutions:

Matty Cash – 6

The full-back performed well enough but not enough to justify his inclusion over Bogarde.

Lucas Digne – 5

Jhon Duran – 5

Emi Buendia – N/A

Jaden Philogene – N/A
