Aston Villa star John McGinn called one of the best ever
Dan Bardell has described Aston Villa captain John McGinn as Scotland’s talisman after he scored two goals during the international break.
The 30-year-old was on the scoresheet in both of the Tartan Army’s clashes against Croatia and Poland in back-to-back Nations League wins.
The Villa midfielder tripled his tally for the season with these international performances after only netting one, against Bologna, this campaign under Unai Emery.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the ex-Hibernian man plays differently for club and country which makes him one of Scotland’s best players ever.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He’s their talisman isn’t he really?
“Arguably he goes down as one of Scotland’s best-ever players after what he’s achieved in the last five or six years. He’s so important for them.
“He seems to play with freedom for Scotland, he always has. Even when he’s suffered for Villa, he’s played with freedom with Scotland.
“You see how good he is for Scotland, I think he’s excellent for Villa. He doesn’t get enough credit.
“He’s such a reliable player and a good watch.“
Aston Villa ace John McGinn shines for Scotland again
Despite never being a prolific goal scorer at club level, McGinn has scored 20 goals for Scotland in 73 appearances since making his debut in 2016.
For the Villans, the Scot has shown his class under Emery with his tactical awareness and footballing IQ there for all to see despite not getting on the scoresheet as much as he might like.
Villa supporters would be keen to see the stalwart have more of a telling impact on games but with his unique ability on the ball, his influence is definitely felt at Villa Park every week.
