Unai Emery drops Ezri Konsa injury update ahead of Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

Unai Emery will have been gutted to discover that Ezri Konsa would be unavailable for the clash between Aston Villa and Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 27-year-old has been a key figure at Villa Park, starting 10 of their Premier League matches to date and starring in impressive Champions League performances against Bayern Munich and Bologna.

Due to his adaptability, being able to deploy at centre-back or right-back, he is extremely key to how Villa play under Emery, so it will come as a huge blow to see him unavailable on 23 November.

Asked about injuries in his pre-match press conference, quoted by BirminghamMail [22 November], Emery said: “Konsa, Amadou Onana, Kamara and Ramsey. We are adding other players after small injuries like Cash and Barkley.”

With the Eagles actually claiming victory in their last meeting, going head-to-head in the EFL Cup last month, Villa will have to attempt to get back to winning ways without their star defender.

Ezri Konsa set to miss Aston Villa v Crystal Palace

In the Premier League this season, Konsa can already boast a 92 per cent passing accuracy, winning 62 per cent of his tackles, making 29 clearances and making six interceptions [FotMob].

Even in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break, the defender maintained an 85 per cent pass completion under pressure, won 80 per cent of his ground duels and won two fouls [FotMob].

Given that Konsa ranks in the top 99 percentile for passing accuracy [FBref], it should really come as no surprise, but his top 63 percentile ranking non-penalty goal could be to some.

However, after coming off at half-time of England’s 3-0 win over Greece during the international break, Villa will need to find a solution when they welcome Palace to Villa Park.
