Marc Albrighton makes unbelievable Aston Villa admission after what’s happened

Marc Albrighton says Aston Villa have had an “unbelievable” couple of years as he addressed concerns about their recent dip in form.

After steady progress at Villa Park, last year the Villans finished fourth in the league which has given them the enjoyment of a Champions League campaign to manage alongside their Premier League campaign this year.

Unai Emery’s side have seen their form take a disappointing turn recently as they are without a win in five games, losing the last four of those, which many have put down to their busier schedule this season.

However, former Villa man Albrighton isn’t surprised about what has happened to the side as he said on talkSPORT [21 November, 5:26pm]: “I’m not surprised to see Villa dip in form. I think expectation levels have got to be sort of balanced out a little bit.

“They’ve had an unbelievable 18 months to two years and I think you’ve just got to balance everything out, you’ve got to enjoy it.

“Enjoy the moment, enjoy the games that they’re playing in, the trips away but at the same time I think they’ve just got to like steady the ship a little bit and yeah, just get back to get back to the basics and try and utilise that squad a little bit.”

Aston Villa need to rectify their form

Villa have certainly seen their form take a bit of a turn and they could definitely do with three points under their belt against Crystal Palace this weekend as they hope to get back on track.

However, as Albrighton alluded to, it is worth considering just how remarkable these last couple of seasons have been for the Villans and to get themselves into the Champions League this season was impressive from Emery and his squad.

We have seen other sides struggle to adapt to the busier schedule as a result of European football and, compared to some of the richer sides in the Premier League, Villa don’t have the squad depth to make too many changes so it’s not something to panic about too much at this stage.

The West Midlands outfit are still sitting ninth in the league and after all their hard work, it is only right that the team and supporters enjoy their Champions League adventure.

However, like Albrighton – a coach in Villa’s youth set-up – says, when it comes to their upcoming games they need to strip it back and focus on getting three points even if it’s not their prettiest performance.
