Álex Baena ‘eager’ to reunite with Unai Emery at Aston Villa despite Tottenham transfer interest

Bryan King expects that Álex Baena would prefer to join Aston Villa over Tottenham.

The ex-Villa scout believes the Villarreal forward will be “eager” to reunite with Unai Emery.

As previously reported by CaughtOffside (29 October), both Villa and Newcastle want to sign the £54million-rated Baena.

According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes (12 November), Tottenham are also interested in the 23-year-old.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – doesn’t think the player would be interested in joining Spurs, so long as Emery’s side are in the race.

“I think he’d find it easy to join Villa and come into a club with a manager that he knows,” King said.

“Baena has worked with Emery. Therefore, I see no reason why Emery wouldn’t push for that transfer, and tell the club that Baena is a great prospect, a good player, and the player that he wants.

“And as a player who has worked with him, I think he’d be eager to join Villa and continue his career in the West Midlands.”

Álex Baena to sign for Aston Villa instead of Tottenham?

Villa are currently competing in the UEFA Champions League, while Ange Postecoglou’s side are in the UEFA Europa League, having been beaten to the top four by the Villans last season.

Therefore, there is no reason why Villa shouldn’t back themselves to win a transfer race with Spurs. It is a testament to how far Villa have come under Emery over the past few years.

And if the Spaniard can help Villa lure Baena to the club despite Spurs’ interest, he will become even more popular than he already is among the club’s supporters.
