Jhon Duran disciplinary action mooted at Aston Villa after incident at Villa Park
Don Goodman expects Aston Villa to take disciplinary action against Jhon Duran should the striker ever react angrily to being substituted again.
Duran was visibly frustrated at being taken off in last month’s Champions League win over Bologna at Villa Park – a game in which he scored.
It is not the first time the Colombia international has let his emotions get the better of him on the pitch, and Goodman reckons Unai Emery would have already had a word.
“If you show me a professional footballer who’s happy to be substituted, well he’s probably not a very good one,” Goodman told Villa News in defence of Duran’s reaction.
“We all hate being substituted – hate it with a passion. There will never not be an element of frustration when it comes to the manager taking you off. The way Duran has reacted to being taken off would have been dealt with in house, and Unai Emery will no doubt have had some words.
“At the same time, he’ll understand it from the player’s point of view. It’s one of those things in which the club will have under control and I doubt you’ll see it again. If it does, disciplinary action will be taken.
“Duran just needs to mature a little; he’s still young and making his way in the game. Ultimately, he’s at the right club and playing under the right manager to help him find that maturity. Never before has football been more about the squad than it is right now – it’s not an 11 man sport any more.”
Jhon Duran must keep doing what he’s doing at Aston Villa
While there is a touch of petulance to Duran, his goalscoring record certainly cannot be questioned.
The South American has scored eight goals in 17 appearances this campaign, which is a good return made even better when you consider he has started just three of those.
Duran is obviously frustrated at playing second-fiddle to Ollie Watkins, but that is unfortunately the way it is going to remain for now.

Emery has shown he is willing to use Watkins and Duran in tandem, and maybe that is something Villa fans will see more of going forward.
For now, Duran needs to just ensure he does his talking with his feet.
