Douglas Luiz return would cause ‘upset’ at Aston Villa amid latest transfer speculation
Bryan King can’t see Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz making a return to Aston Villa in January.
The ex-Villa scout thinks bringing the 26-year-old back to the club so soon after he left would cause problems behind the scenes.
After struggling to settle in at Juventus, Luiz has been linked with a shock return to Villa Park in January (via CalcioMercato, 3 November).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – isn’t so sure this would be a good idea.
“I’d be surprised to see Luiz back at Villa,” King said.
“I wouldn’t see the point of that transfer if I’m being honest. It is true that Juventus aren’t the team that they used to be, they’re a team in transition.
“However, I can’t see that deal happening. Luiz wanted to get away, he got away, and within six months there is talk of him coming back.
“I think that would cause upset behind the scenes if I’m being honest.”

Luiz seemed keen to move on from Villa in the summer. Therefore, just like King, Dan Bardell would also be surprised to see the Brazillian return to the club.
As a result, it doesn’t necessarily appear a transfer is likely.
Unai Emery might be excited by the prospect of working with Luiz again, after the impact the player made during his time with Villa. In addition, fans would likely welcome the midfielder back.
However, it could be argued that the transfer would be unnecessary. While Luiz’s quality can’t be doubted, his presence hasn’t necessarily been missed, and Villa have a lot of top-quality options in the middle of the park.
In addition, the player seemed so keen to leave Villa in the first place. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him stick it out at Juventus and fight for his future in Italy.
