Travis Patterson does himself no favours with Unai Emery at Aston Villa
Travis Patterson has done himself no favours with Unai Emery as Aston Villa Under-21s lost against Barrow in the EFL Trophy.
The Villans travelled to Barrow on Tuesday (12 November) and came away with no points despite qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
The Young Lions fell to a 3-0 defeat at Holker Street, with Dom Telford opening the scoring with an effort from the halfway line.
Emery may have been keeping an eye on performances from certain players but there was a general lack of positivity from the defeat.

One of the brightest talents coming out of Bodymoor Heath at the moment is Patterson after being named on the first-team bench twice this campaign.
With that being said, the Villans would have had higher hopes for the 19-year-old in a clash against League Two opposition.
This wasn’t the case as the versatile defender featured across the full 90 minutes but failed to have much of a positive impact, especially going forward.
Defensively, he had lots to do which saw him contribute with six clearances but he failed to win a tackle while also losing possession 12 times [SofaScore].

This won’t have gone down with Emery, who likes his defenders to be reliable with the ball while being able to make a positive contribution at the back and going forward.
This is just a blip on what has been a positive campaign so far for the youngster, but these games against senior opposition are an excellent opportunity for young players to prove themselves.
In other Aston Villa star, Ben Foster has slammed one star, describing him as “woeful” after what he did against Liverpool.
