Leon Bailey has new chance to prove himself to Unai Emery and Aston Villa

Leon Bailey has to prove himself to Unai Emery on international duty with Jamaica after a poor start to the season for Aston Villa.

Looking back at last season, the 27-year-old was just superb and easily one of the Villans’ best players as Champions League qualification was secured.

In his opening 15 appearances of this season, however, the winger is yet to score a goal and has generally struggled to make a positive impact on any game.

Now after joining up with the Jamaica squad for the first time in a year, Bailey has to prove himself and show why he should be starting on his return to B6.

Villa have suffered four losses on the bounce as there has been a lack of attacking contribution from the entire front line, except from Morgan Rogers.

Against Liverpool, Bailey’s recent performances were summed up and that just added further frustration as far as supporters are concerned.

Emery hooked the wide man with 25 minutes to go at Anfield after he had just 23 touches and completed only one dribble.

Going forward, the Jamaican had a general lack of impact as he registered a zero per cent success rate for shooting and crossing, summing up his lack of output in claret and blue this season.

Bailey also failed to help out Ezri Konsa at right-back as he didn’t contribute a single defensive action while being dribbled past once.

Despite being typically dogged, the winger won just one duel, losing 75 per cent of his attempts.

With this performance now behind him, the former Genk starlet has a chance to get his season going with a string of positive performances for Jamaica during the international break.
