Tyrone Mings timescale speculated after Aston Villa howler

Ian Darke has analysed Tyrone Mings’ chances of nailing down a regular spot for Aston Villa upon his long-awaited return to fitness.

In only his second game back after a lengthy lay-off, Mings’ bizarre error involving Emi Martinez’s goal kick resulted in a penalty for Club Brugge on Wednesday night [7 November] which turned out to be decisive.

TV commentator Darke, who covers the Champions League for TNT Sports, has discussed what the short-term aim is for the centre-half.

“They’ve got the likes of Konsa, Torres and Diego Carlos – I might be missing one. So it won’t be easy,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“What I will say is it can only be a plus for Unai Emery to have someone as classy as Tyrone Mings back fit and around the squad.

“They’ll need to continue to rotate. Hopefully within a month or so, he’ll be back at his very best.”

Aston Villa have to avoid European hangover at Liverpool

Aston Villa – who have been criticised for suffering “hangovers” after high-intensity Champions League games upon returning to Premier League action – look to put a run of three straight defeats to an end this Saturday [9 November], but they take on league leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

After their three European games so far Villa have actually been without defeat, albeit playing out home draws with Manchester United and Bournemouth.

Villa also came out on top against Wolverhampton Wanderers after their opening Champions League clash against Young Boys back in September.

In other Aston Villa news, Dan Bardell says he “loves” the new academy appointment of a Premier League winner at the club.
